Flying Dutchman stocks the full range of electric bikes in London, from our three shops in Camden, Notting Hill and Hackney. There are family bikes for the school run, cargo bikes for the heavy lifting, and city bikes for getting around town — so if you’re not yet sure which kind you need, start here and we’ll help you narrow it down.

The range is chosen, not catalogued: brands we rate for build and serviceability, components we can keep serviced for years, and drive systems with a proven track record, most running Bosch. Whatever you choose is built and safety-checked in our own workshop, with a free first service at 500 km and three London workshops behind it.

What kind of electric bikes do you sell?

Three broad kinds, grouped by what you need the bike to do. Family bikes carry children and passengers — longtails, box bikes and family trikes. Cargo bikes handle loads, tools and business use — compact, front-loading and trikes. City bikes are for getting around town — commuter, folding and step-through. Across all three you’ll find brands we ride and rate, from Riese & Müller and Tern to Gazelle and Moustache. Not sure which group fits? That’s what the next question — and a test ride — are for.
What’s the best electric bike for London?

There’s no single answer — the best electric bike for London is the one that fits your actual riding. For the school run or carrying children, a family bike like the Urban Arrow or a Tern longtail; for shifting loads or running a business, a cargo bike; for getting yourself across town, a city bike such as a Riese & Müller commuter or a Gazelle. London adds a few things worth weighting: assist for the hills and headwinds, lights and mudguards for the dark, wet months, a frame you can keep secure or bring indoors, and a brand we can service and get parts for years down the line. Tell us your routes and we’ll point you at two or three to try — a test ride settles it far better than any list.

Every bike is built and safety-checked here before you collect it, your first health check is free at 500 km, and we handle manufacturer warranty claims so you don’t have to. We’ll help you choose properly, size you on the bike, and keep it running for years — and for cover against theft and damage we recommend Laka, a bike-focused insurer we’ve found easy to deal with.
How long will an electric bike last?

A well-made one, looked after, will comfortably cover many years and many thousands of miles. The brands we stock are made to be serviced and repaired, with quality frames, proven motor systems and parts we can still get years down the line — most run Bosch, who back their components with helpful support on the rare occasion it’s needed. Keep up the odd service, with the chain and brakes kept happy, and the bike keeps going. We service everything we sell across our three workshops, so we’re here to make that easy.
How far will an electric bike go on a charge?

It depends on the things you’d expect — how hilly your route is, how much assist you use, how much you’re carrying, and the size of the battery. As a rough guide, most of our bikes comfortably cover a week of city commuting between charges, and where you need more there are dual-battery options. Do you sell non-electric (acoustic) bikes too?

We do — a small, carefully chosen selection, which you’ll find in our Acoustic range. Most of what we sell is electric, but if you’d rather ride without a motor, come in and we’ll show you what we have.
