Moustache Mardi 27.2

The Mardi is Moustache’s comfort commuter — the answer to the rough side of city riding. Where the Lundi keeps things classically rigid, the Mardi adds a suspension fork, wider tyres and an adjustable stem to take the sting out of cobbles, kerbs and broken tarmac. The 27.2 is the way into that platform: the same low step-through frame and heads-up position, a Bosch 75 Nm Performance Line motor, and a Shimano hub gear you can shift at a standstill — with a choice of chain or belt drive.

Comfort, from the first ride

The 27.2 suits riders who want their commute to feel calm — not a workout, not a wrestle with the road. The front suspension fork and suspension seatpost soak up the potholes and cobbles that would jar a rigid bike, while the wide Schwalbe Super Moto-X tyres add another layer of cushioning. The adjustable stem lets you set the bars exactly where you want them, upright and relaxed or a little lower and sportier.

The open, step-through frame means you get on and off in one easy movement, in whatever you happen to be wearing, and the Shimano hub gear shifts even when you’re stopped — so you’re never caught in the wrong gear at the lights. It’s a bike for the daily run: the school gates, the station, the shops.

Built for everyday London

The frame is Moustache’s hydroformed 6061 alloy with the Bosch PowerTube battery set low in the down tube. The Bosch Performance Line motor (75 Nm) runs the Smart System, so you have the eBike Flow app, adjustable assistance and on-screen navigation via the Purion 200 display. An SR Suntour suspension fork with 100 mm of travel and a suspension seatpost do the comfort work.

Shimano hydraulic disc brakes handle the stopping, integrated AXA lights run off the main battery, and Moustache’s tubular mudguards and a MIK HD / QL3 rear rack — ready for a child seat, panniers or a crate — come as standard. Gears are a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub, available with a chain or a low-maintenance belt, and an integrated frame lock secures the bike for quick stops.

Where the Mardi earns its name

What separates the Mardi from the rigid Lundi is comfort, and the 27.2 has the full comfort setup: a suspension fork at the front, a suspension seatpost beneath you, and wide, high-volume tyres. Together they take the harshness out of the surfaces London throws at you — sunken drain covers, tram lines, the patchwork of a resurfaced junction — so the ride stays smooth and settled where a rigid bike would rattle.

The adjustable stem is part of that too. Raise the bars for a fully upright, heads-up position, or drop them a little for a more purposeful feel — and change your mind whenever you like, without tools. It’s a bike set up around the rider rather than the spec sheet.

Which Mardi is right for you?

The Mardi comes in three trims on the comfort frame, plus a full-suspension version. The 27.2 here is the way in — a Shimano hub gear with a choice of chain or belt. The 27.4 settles on a low-maintenance belt with the same hub gear. The 27.6 goes automatic, with an Enviolo hub that shifts for you. And if your roads are genuinely rough, the 27.4 FS adds a rear shock for full front-and-rear suspension. Prefer a rigid, more classic ride? The Lundi is the Mardi’s stablemate without the suspension fork. Come and ride a couple back to back — the differences are easy to feel.

FAQs

What is the difference between the Lundi and the Mardi?

Both are upright, step-through Moustache city bikes on the same wheels and motor family. The Lundi is rigid at the front and gets its comfort from the riding position and a suspension seatpost. The Mardi adds a suspension fork and an adjustable stem, which makes a real difference on cobbles, broken tarmac and rougher cycle paths. If your routes are smooth the Lundi is lovely; if they’re bumpy, the Mardi is the calmer ride.

Should I choose the chain or the belt version of the 27.2?

Both use the same Shimano hub gear; the difference is upkeep. A chain is familiar and easy to live with, but needs occasional oiling and cleaning. A Gates belt runs cleaner and quieter, won’t rust or mark your clothes, and lasts far longer between replacements — worth considering if you ride daily and would rather not think about maintenance. We’re happy to talk through which suits you.

Can you change gear on the Mardi 27.2 while stopped?

Yes — the Shimano hub gear shifts while you’re stationary, so if you reach a junction in too high a gear you simply click down while you wait and pull away smoothly. It’s one of the things that makes hub gears so well suited to stop-start city traffic.

Is the Mardi 27.2 comfortable enough for rough roads?

For most city surfaces, yes — the front suspension fork, suspension seatpost and wide tyres handle cobbles, potholes and broken tarmac well. If your regular routes are genuinely rough — unmade paths, heavy cobbles, rutted cycle tracks — the full-suspension 27.4 FS adds a rear shock for even more cushioning. Come and try both and feel the difference.
