Urban Arrow

Explore the Urban Arrow range

Urban Arrow invented the modern family cargo bike back in 2011, and they’ve been refining it ever since. Every model is built around one idea — replacing short car journeys with something cleaner, calmer and nicer to ride — on a low, stable platform with a tough EPP box, Bosch motors and stepless Enviolo gears.

Find the right Urban Arrow

Urban Arrow has been building front-loading electric cargo bikes in Amsterdam since the start, and the range now stretches from the school run to the delivery round. Whatever you need to carry — children, shopping or a working load — there is a model built around it.

One range, built for real London life

Whether you are carrying children to school or goods across the city, an Urban Arrow is designed to do the daily journey better than the car or the van it replaces — calmer, cleaner and genuinely nicer to ride.

Built around what you carry

Every Urban Arrow is designed around its load. The signature EPP foam box is light, tough and protective, and it sits low between the wheels so the bike stays planted and steady — whether that’s two children on the school run or a full delivery in the back.

It’s a reassuring thing to ride: stable at walking pace, settled at the lights, and easy to put a foot down even fully loaded.

One bike instead of a second car — or a van

Families use an Urban Arrow to replace the second car: the nursery run, the big shop and the weekend adventure, without the parking or the petrol. Independent businesses use it to replace the van: faster across town, parked at the door, and welcome in every low- and zero-emission zone.

No congestion charge, no ULEZ, no fuel — just a bike that earns its place in the city, day after day.

Come and ride one in London

We ride these bikes ourselves and keep the range across our Camden, Notting Hill and Hackney shops — come and test-ride an Urban Arrow, bring the children or your typical load, and we’ll help you find the right model and set it up with the accessories you need. Every bike is built to order, so you choose the trim, battery and colour. As a Bosch quality partner we set every bike up properly before you ride away, include a free first service at 500 km, and can recommend Laka if you’d like insurance. We’re also a Cycle to Work retailer, so you can buy through your employer’s scheme.

Frequently asked questions about Urban Arrow

How many children can I carry on an Urban Arrow?

It depends on the model. The FamilyNext carries two to three children in the box; the Breeze longtail carries up to two on the rear; and the compact Shorty carries one or two up front. With a Maxi-Cosi adapter you can carry a baby from the early months. We are happy to help you work out the right setup for your children's ages.

Which Urban Arrow is right for me?

For families, it comes down to space and storage: the FamilyNext for the most room and comfort, the Breeze if you want something that rides and stores like a normal bike, or the Shorty for the tightest streets. For business, the Cargo is the benchmark delivery bike and the Tender is the three-wheeled van replacement. Tell us how you ride and we will point you to the right one.

How far will it go on one charge?

Urban Arrows use Bosch batteries, usually from 400 Wh up to 800 Wh depending on the model and your choice. Real-world range varies with load, terrain and assist level, but most family riders comfortably cover a week of school runs between charges. Business riders can add a second battery for long delivery rounds.

Do I need a licence, tax or insurance?

No. Every Urban Arrow is a 25 km/h electric-assist bike (a pedelec), so it is treated as a normal bicycle in the UK — no licence, road tax or compulsory insurance, including the three-wheeled Tender. We would always recommend insuring a bike of this value, and we can talk you through the options.

Can I ride it in the ULEZ and Congestion Charge zone?

Yes — as a zero-emission bike, an Urban Arrow is exempt from the Congestion Charge and the ULEZ, and it parks where a car or van cannot. For London businesses that is often the single biggest reason to switch.

Are Urban Arrow bikes made to order?

Yes. Most Urban Arrows are built to your chosen spec — trim, battery, colour and, for the Cargo and Tender, the box or body for your work. That means a short lead time rather than off-the-shelf, so it is worth talking to us early. We will give you a realistic timescale when you order.

Can I keep children dry in the rain?

Yes. The family models take a raincover and box cover that keep children warm and dry, plus rider weather protection — so the school run carries on whatever the weather. See the accessories for the full range.

Can I test ride one in London?

Absolutely, and we recommend it. We keep the Urban Arrow range at both our East and West London shops — come and ride one, bring the children or a typical load, and get a feel for it before you decide.
