Brompton

More than fifty years on from the first fold, Brompton still builds its bikes by hand in London — and the Electric range brings a motor to the bike that already fits this city better than most. A Brompton Electric folds small enough for the train, the office and the hallway, and the e-Motiq system takes care of the hills in between. We sell the Electric C Line, Electric P Line and Electric G Line, each available to order through us.

What they share, where they differ

Every Electric Brompton shares the same foundations: the compact fold, a removable battery, and Brompton's own e-Motiq system — a rear hub motor with a torque sensor that reads how hard you're pedalling and matches its assistance to you. Three assist modes, up to 90 km of range, and an app that learns your riding over the first 100 km to sharpen its range predictions.

The differences are in the build. The Electric C Line is the original all-steel Brompton with power added. The Electric P Line trims the weight with a titanium rear frame and carbon fork. The Electric G Line steps up to 20-inch wheels and hydraulic disc brakes for a full-size ride feel that folds just the same.

Engineered, then tested

Brompton developed the e-Motiq system itself, using the same engineering approach as the automotive and aerospace industries. Every Electric Brompton is independently certified to UL2849, one of the most thorough electrical safety standards in the e-bike industry. The engineering continues after the sale, too: updates arrive through the app, and the system keeps improving.

Made for London journeys

This is a bike designed a few miles from our shops, for exactly the journeys most of us make: the commute with a train in the middle, the office with nowhere to lock up, the flat with no bike storage. Folded, a Brompton Electric comes aboard most public transport — TfL services included — as easily as a piece of luggage. And when the assistance isn't needed, it rides perfectly well as an ordinary bike.

Brompton at Flying Dutchman

The right Brompton depends on how you'll carry it, how far you'll ride and what the route looks like — which is exactly the conversation to have in person. Book an appointment at any of our three London shops and we'll set the bikes up for you to compare. We order Bromptons in on request, so tell us the model and colour you're after and we'll confirm availability and lead time.

Frequently asked questions about Brompton

What is Brompton e-Motiq?

e-Motiq is Brompton's own electric system — first seen on the G Line and now fitted across the electric range. It pairs a rear hub motor with a torque sensor, giving smooth assistance that responds to your pedalling rather than switching abruptly on and off. It offers three assist modes, Start Assist for pulling away, up to 90 km of range per charge from the 345 Wh battery, a compact handlebar controller, and an app that learns your riding style to predict range accurately.

Which Electric Brompton is right for me?

If you want the classic Brompton at its most robust, the Electric C Line is the starting point. If you carry your bike often — stairs, trains, offices — the lighter Electric P Line earns its titanium. If your riding includes rougher roads, towpaths or longer commutes, the Electric G Line with its 20-inch wheels and disc brakes rides most like a full-size bike. Or book an appointment and try all three back to back.

Can I take a Brompton Electric on the train or the Tube?

Yes — Brompton Electric bikes can be taken on most forms of public transport, including Transport for London services, folded and carried as luggage. For services outside London, check with the operator.

Can a Brompton Electric be ridden without the battery?

Yes. Every model in the range rides as a normal bike with the assistance off or the battery removed — the battery detaches from its mount so you can charge it wherever is convenient.

What warranty comes with a Brompton Electric?

A 7-year main frame warranty when registered with Brompton, a warranty on the electric system that extends to 3 years on registration, and a 2-year warranty on other non-wearing parts. We handle any warranty work through our workshops.

Where are Brompton bikes made?

Brompton has built its bikes in London since 1975. Every steel frame is brazed by hand at the company's London factory by brazers trained in-house — each one signs the frames they make. Titanium framesets are welded at Brompton's specialist facility in Sheffield.

How do I order a Brompton from Flying Dutchman?

We order Bromptons in on request rather than holding them on the shop floor. Use the enquiry button on the model you're after, or book an appointment at our Camden, Notting Hill or Hackney shop, and we'll confirm the configuration, availability and lead time with you directly.

Does Flying Dutchman service Brompton Electric bikes?

Yes — our workshops service the full electric range, and your first service at 500 km is free, as with every e-bike we sell.
