The Urban Arrow FamilyNext is a front-loading electric cargo bike built around the children in the box. It’s the latest generation of the Urban Arrow Family, now with a front suspension fork, a roomier redesigned box and a one-handed seatbelt, so the school run starts calm and stays that way.

Underneath is the kit Urban Arrow is known for: the 100 Nm Bosch Cargo Line motor, stepless Enviolo gears, a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt and Schwalbe tyres, kept low and central for a planted, stable ride even fully loaded. Two children sit up front in full view, three with the extra bench, or a newborn with a Maxi-Cosi adapter.

Built around the children in the box

Urban Arrow designed the FamilyNext around its passengers first. Children sit low and in view on a deeper, more comfortable bench with a higher backrest, and a one-handed three-point seatbelt that clips shut quickly — even around a wriggling toddler.

The redesigned EPP box is roomier and easier to climb into, with new foot cutouts and thick, helmet-grade foam that insulates and absorbs knocks. The school run starts calmly, and stays that way — for them and for you.

The bike that replaces the second car

This is the bike that quietly takes over the second-car jobs. The nursery drop-off, the big weekly shop, swimming kit and three children’s worth of bags all fit up front where you can see them, and none of it needs a parking space.

A front suspension fork takes the sting out of London’s potholes, cobbles and dropped kerbs, so younger passengers get a smoother, calmer ride — and you get a bike that stays composed with a full box on board.

Stable, planted and easy to ride

Carrying precious cargo, the FamilyNext stays reassuringly planted. The load sits low and between the wheels, so the bike feels balanced and steady at walking pace, at the lights and when you put a foot down. It’s a big bike that rides small.

The small front wheel makes it easy to turn through traffic, and Magura hydraulic disc brakes give confident, controlled stopping whether the box is empty or full. Most people feel at home within a few minutes of their first ride.

Two children sit up front by default, facing forward and in full view. Add the extra bench and you can carry three; add a Maxi-Cosi adapter and a newborn can travel from the early months. The front box is rated to around 125 kg and the whole bike to around 250 kg including you, so there’s room for the children and the shopping together.

The FamilyNext Pro uses the 100 Nm Bosch Cargo Line motor — plenty of pull for hills and heavier loads — with stepless Enviolo gears and a Gates carbon belt, so shifting is twist-and-go and there’s no chain to oil. LED corner lights on the box come as standard, and the Bosch Smart System adds navigation and ride data through the eBike Flow app.

A Bosch PowerPack comfortably covers a typical week of school runs and shops. Real range depends on load, terrain, weather and how much assistance you use, so we can talk you through realistic figures — and you can add a second battery for longer or hillier days.
