Moustache Lundi 27.4

The Lundi is the upright, swept-handlebar city bike Moustache has built since the brand began, and the 27.4 sits in the middle of the current range — arguably the sweet spot. It pairs the same low step-through frame and heads-up position with Bosch’s 75 Nm Performance Line motor and a Shimano hub gear you can shift even while stopped.

It is the Lundi for riders who want proper power and stop-start-friendly gears, without stepping up to the belt-driven flagship.

The stop-start city, sorted

The 27.4 is built for the rhythm of real city riding — the constant stopping and starting of lights, junctions and traffic. Its Shimano hub gear lets you drop to an easier gear while you are stationary, so you never find yourself grinding away from a standstill in the wrong gear. With the stronger Performance Line motor behind it, pulling away is easy every time, loaded or not.

The upright Moustache bars keep you comfortable and clear-sighted, the open frame means you step straight through, and wide Schwalbe Super Moto-X tyres with a suspension seatpost settle the ride over cobbles and cracked tarmac. It is a bike you can ride every day, in ordinary clothes, without thinking about it.

Built for everyday London

The frame is Moustache’s hydroformed 6061 alloy with the Bosch PowerTube battery set low in the down tube for a stable, planted feel. The Bosch Performance Line motor (75 Nm) runs the Smart System, so you have the eBike Flow app, on-screen navigation, adjustable assistance and the option to unlock the bike from the Kiox 300 display.

Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes do the stopping, integrated Spanninga lights run off the main battery, and Moustache’s exclusive tubular mudguards, a MIK HD / QL3 rear rack (child seat, basket or panniers) and a built-in AXA Block XXL frame lock come as standard.

Gears you can change while stopped

The 27.4’s defining feature is its Shimano hub gear. Unlike a derailleur, a hub gear shifts while you are stationary — so if you arrive at a junction in too high a gear, you simply click down while you wait, then pull away smoothly when the light changes. In stop-start London traffic, it is a small thing that makes the daily ride noticeably calmer.

The hub gears are sealed away from the weather and grime too, which means less to clean and adjust than an exposed derailleur. It is a practical, low-fuss setup — a step towards the maintenance-free belt of the 27.6, while keeping the familiarity and value of a chain.

Which Lundi 27 is right for you?

One frame runs through the whole Lundi range; the choice is about motor and gears. The ES is the gentle, derailleur-geared way in for steady, flatter riding. The 27.4 here adds the stronger 75 Nm Performance Line motor and a hub gear you can shift at a standstill — the practical all-rounder for stop-start city use. The 27.6 goes one further, swapping the chain for a stepless Enviolo hub and a maintenance-free belt. If you want hub-gear convenience without the flagship’s belt, the 27.4 is the one; come and ride it next to the 27.6 to feel the difference.

At Flying Dutchman

We ride these bikes ourselves, year-round, so the advice comes from the saddle, not a brochure. We will set the 27.4 up for your height, show you how the hub gear shifts at a standstill, and let you take it out on real roads before you decide — ideally alongside another trim so the difference is obvious. Come and see us at one of our London shops, and browse the full Moustache range while you are here.

FAQs

Can you change gear on the Lundi 27.4 while stopped?

Yes — that is the main reason to choose it over the derailleur-geared ES. The Shimano hub gear shifts while you are stationary, so if you reach a junction in too high a gear you simply click down while you wait and pull away smoothly. In stop-start city traffic it makes a real difference to how relaxed the ride feels.

Does the 27.4 have a chain or a belt?

A chain. The hub gear runs a conventional chain, which keeps the 27.4 simpler and better value than the belt-driven 27.6. If you would rather have no chain to oil at all — and the lowest maintenance possible — the 27.6’s Gates belt is worth the step up; we can show you both.

What is the difference between the Lundi 27.4 and 27.6?

Both use the same frame and the 75 Nm Performance Line motor. The 27.4 has a Shimano hub gear and a chain; the 27.6 has a stepless Enviolo hub and a maintenance-free Gates belt. The 27.6 is smoother to shift and needs less upkeep; the 27.4 is the more straightforward, better-value option. Both shift at a standstill.

What is the difference between the Lundi and the Mardi?

Both are upright, step-through Moustache city bikes. The Lundi is rigid at the front and gets its comfort from the riding position, wide tyres and suspension seatpost — ideal on reasonable roads. The Mardi adds a suspension fork and adjustable stem for rougher streets. If your routes are broken and bumpy, look at the Mardi; if they are mostly smooth, the Lundi is the more elegant choice.
