UNIT 1 SPARKY sizing

SizeHead circumference
One size 49 – 53 cm Adjustable fit system, so it keeps fitting as your child grows

How to measure

Measure around your child’s head with a soft tape, just above the eyebrows and around the widest part at the back. Age is only a rough guide — head size is what decides the fit, and children of the same age vary a great deal.

Getting the fit right

The SPARKY comes in one size and uses an adjustable fit system, so it keeps fitting as your child grows. It should sit level, just above the eyebrows, and feel snug once the dial is tightened — the straps should form a V just below each ear with the chin strap firm but comfortable.

If your child measures close to the top of the range, bring them in and we will check the fit before you buy.

Their light, their colours, their choice. The SPARKY is a kids' smart helmet with a rear light your child switches on and controls themselves — the sort of small thing that can turn "put your helmet on" into something they're actually keen to do. It adds an extra rear light at head height, riding with them wherever they go. FIDLOCK magnetic buckle, NFC safety tag, EN-1078 and CPSC certified, ages 3–9.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the SPARKY have crash detection?
It's a deliberate difference rather than a missing feature. UNIT 1 built the SPARKY around what actually helps a young child — a light they can control and enjoy using, plus solid EN-1078 and CPSC certification — rather than an app-based system built around an adult's phone and routine.
How do I know if the SPARKY will fit my child?
The size range is 49–53cm head circumference, roughly ages 3 to 9, but children's heads vary a fair bit within that, so age alone isn't a reliable guide. Measure around the widest part of the head just above the eyebrows, or better, bring them in — we'll check it sits level and snug before you buy, rather than guessing from a chart at home.
Try the UNIT 1 SPARKY at Flying Dutchman in London
We stock the SPARKY across our shops, and fitting a child properly matters more here than with almost anything else we sell — a helmet that pinches or sits wrong is a helmet that comes off within a week. Bring them in and let them cycle through the colours and pick one.
