How to measure

Helmet size is based on the circumference of your head. Take a soft tape or a length of string and measure right around your head, just above the eyebrows and around the widest part at the back. Keep the tape level and make sure it wraps the full way round. Measure twice — it is easy to be a centimetre out.

Getting the fit right

UNIT 1 give two ranges because head shape affects fit as well as circumference. An oval head is longer front to back and narrower side to side; a round head is closer to equal in both. If you are unsure, use the oval column — it is the more common shape — and if you fall between two sizes, take the larger.

The helmet should sit level, with the front edge just above your eyebrows — not tipped back off your forehead. Tighten the dial at the back until it feels snug with only a little movement, then set the straps so the junction sits just below each ear. Head shape is easier to judge in person, so come in and we will fit you properly.

UNIT 1's most visible helmet — front and rear lights, plus a strip of RGB light hidden under the fabric that glows through the shell. Red Dot and iF Gold award-winning design, with MIPS fitted as standard. Add the UNIT 1 Remote for turn signals and an automatic brake light. Certified to EN-1078 and CPSC, rather than the e-bike-specific NTA-8776.

Key specifications
  • Build EPS liner in an ABS shell, five vents, IP67 water and dust resistance. FIDLOCK magnetic buckle. 640g in size M.
  • Lights Front and rear, plus an RGB strip set beneath the fabric that glows through the shell.
  • Power 1500mAh battery, charged over USB-C.
  • Also Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3-axis accelerometer, for light control and crash alert through the UNIT 1 app. Black only, three sizes.
Compatibility

Turn signals and the automatic brake light need the UNIT 1 Remote, a handlebar control sold separately. Without it the front, hidden and rear lights still work as normal.

The UNIT 1 app pairs over Bluetooth for light settings, colour, battery level and crash alert.

What's in the box

FARO helmet and a USB-C charging cable. The UNIT 1 Remote is sold separately.

Safety & certification

MIPS fitted as standard — a low-friction layer inside the shell that shifts slightly during an angled impact, reducing the rotational force reaching your head.

Certified to EN-1078 and CPSC. The FARO is not certified to NTA-8776, the e-bike-specific standard — if that higher threshold matters to you, the AURA and NEON carry it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the FARO come with MIPS?
Yes — the FARO we stock is the FARO Mips, so MIPS is built in as standard. It's a low-friction layer inside the shell that can shift slightly at the moment of an angled impact, which is the most common kind in real crashes, reducing the rotational force passed to your head. It sits alongside the FARO's EN-1078 and CPSC certification.
Why doesn't the FARO carry NTA-8776 certification?
It wasn't built to that standard. FARO carries EN-1078 and CPSC — the certifications every bike helmet sold in Europe meets — while NTA-8776 tests to a higher impact energy and demands more coverage at the temples and back of the head. If you want that extra margin, particularly on a heavier or loaded bike, the AURA or NEON is worth looking at instead.
Try the UNIT 1 FARO at Flying Dutchman in London
We keep the FARO in our London shops, and this is one worth seeing in person before you decide — the RGB lighting reads very differently in daylight than it does on a product photo. Come in, see it lit up, and we'll help you weigh it against the AURA if you're not sure whether the e-bike certification is something you need.
