How to measure

Helmet size is based on the circumference of your head. Take a soft tape or a length of string and measure right around your head, just above the eyebrows and around the widest part at the back. Keep the tape level and make sure it wraps the full way round. Measure twice — it is easy to be a centimetre out.

Getting the fit right

UNIT 1 give two ranges for the NEON because head shape affects fit as well as circumference. An oval head is longer front to back and narrower side to side; a round head is closer to equal in both. If you are unsure, use the oval column — it is the more common shape — and if between sizes, go for the larger.

The helmet should sit level, with the front edge just above your eyebrows. Tighten the dial at the back until it feels snug with only a little movement, then set the straps so the junction sits just below each ear. Head shape is easier to judge in person — come in and we will fit you.

UNIT 1's pared-back commuter helmet — just a rear light, at head height where it clears the rack and holds a driver's view longer than a seatpost light manages. MIPS and NTA-8776 e-bike certification are standard, and at 440g it's the lightest of the connected range. Add the UNIT 1 Remote for signalling and an automatic brake light.

Key specifications
  • Build EPS liner in a polycarbonate shell, IPX5 water resistance. Regular or FIDLOCK magnetic buckle. 440g in size M.
  • Lights Rear only, integrated into the shell.
  • Power 1350mAh battery, charged over USB-C.
  • Also Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3-axis accelerometer, for light control and crash alert through the UNIT 1 app. Five colours, three sizes.
Compatibility

Turn signals and the automatic brake light need the UNIT 1 Remote, a handlebar control sold separately. Without it the rear light still works as normal.

The UNIT 1 app pairs over Bluetooth for light settings, battery level and crash alert. A magnetic Speed Visor is available as an optional add-on.

What's in the box

NEON helmet and a USB-C charging cable. The UNIT 1 Remote and the Speed Visor are sold separately.

Safety & certification

MIPS fitted as standard — a low-friction layer inside the shell that shifts slightly during an angled impact, reducing the rotational force reaching your head.

Certified to NTA-8776, the standard written for e-bike riding, which tests to a higher impact energy than EN-1078 and asks for more coverage at the temples and rear. Also certified to EN-1078 and CPSC.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose the NEON over the AURA?
Mostly weight and what you're paying for. The NEON drops the front light and keeps everything else that matters for e-bike commuting — MIPS, NTA-8776 certification, crash detection, and the same Remote-driven brake light and turn signals. If front illumination isn't something you need on your route, the NEON gets you the same certification and safety features in a lighter, simpler helmet.
Is 440g light for a smart helmet?
It's on the lighter side for a helmet carrying this much technology — a light, MIPS, a sensor and a battery all add weight that a plain acoustic-bike helmet doesn't carry. You notice it most on a long commute, where a heavier helmet starts to feel like it after an hour. It's one of the reasons the NEON suits daily use particularly well.
Try the UNIT 1 NEON at Flying Dutchman in London
We stock the NEON across our shops, and it's usually the first helmet we point regular e-bike commuters towards — properly certified, nothing surplus to what you actually need day to day. Come in and try it on; if low sun on your route is a factor, ask us about the Speed Visor while you're at it.
