Bike43 Long

The Bike43 Long is the bike for carrying the whole crew. Where the Short and Mid share an aluminium frame, the Long is its own design – a chromoly steel longtail with a lifetime frame warranty, built to take up to three children on the rear bench (four with a front seat), day in, day out. A larger 24-inch front wheel rolls over kerbs and London's broken tarmac instead of stopping at them, while the rear stays on a 20-inch wheel to keep the load low and the bike planted. At around 197 cm it's longer than its siblings but still close to an ordinary bike, and at roughly 30 kg it's notably light for something this capable. Steel does the rest: it flexes just enough to take the edge off the road, and it lasts.

The Long's frame is chromoly (CrMo) steel – chosen for its compliance and longevity, and backed by a lifetime frame warranty. The 24-inch front wheel paired with a 20-inch rear is the bike's signature: the bigger front wheel climbs kerbs and absorbs obstacles, while the smaller rear keeps children and cargo sitting low for stability. Bosch's Performance Line PX motor (90 Nm) supplies the torque for repeated hill starts under a full load, and a Shimano Nexus 5-speed internal hub gives clean, maintenance-light shifting you can use at a standstill – with no derailleur to knock or adjust and a full chainguard keeping the drivetrain protected. The patented Footbox tucks the youngest child's feet under the saddle, freeing room for up to three on the bench, which lifts to make loading children easy. Hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lights and a long list of accessories – bench cushions, footrests, panniers, a front seat and a rain canopy among them – let you tailor the back end to your family. For all its capacity, it stores upright and fits through a standard doorway.

Bike43's frame warranties cover the original owner for normal (non-professional) use and apply to bikes bought through an authorised dealer, which Flying Dutchman is. On top of that, e-bikes bought from us include the first service at 500 km.

At about 197 cm it's longer than the Short and Mid but still close to a normal bike, it stands upright for storage, fits through a standard doorway, and at around 30 kg it's light enough to manage and to lift onto a car rack.
