The Charger5 is the bike serious R&M commuters keep coming back to — and the most thoroughly redesigned generation yet. New frame geometry, polished welds, a multi-drive platform that accepts Bosch Performance Line CX (85Nm), PX (90Nm) and Speed motors or the Pinion MGU E1.12, and four frame sizes from 45 to 58cm. If you ride five days a week, year-round, in all conditions across London, this is the R&M built specifically for you.

Who it's for

The Charger5 is for someone who treats their commute seriously — not as something to get through, but as part of the day worth doing well. It suits anyone covering real daily distances in all weathers, who wants a bike that is powerful, refined and requires as little thought as possible once they are on it. The Pinion MGU version particularly suits those who want to remove mechanical maintenance from the equation entirely. The Mixte version suits shared use between two adults of different heights, or anyone who simply prefers a lower frame for daily mounting and dismounting.

Build & technology

The current Charger5 is the first generation to offer the Pinion MGU E1.12 — motor and 12-speed gearbox in a single sealed unit at the crank, with no derailleur, no external gear mechanism and virtually no mechanical maintenance. For those who prefer Bosch, the CX (85Nm), PX (90Nm) and Speed variants are all available within the same frame platform. The suspension fork and suspended seatpost are a deliberate choice for a commuter bike — absorbing road vibration efficiently without the weight or complexity of full suspension. A Supernova headlight with main and dipped beam and a rear brake light keep you visible on early mornings and through winter. Optional Bosch eBike ABS is available. Battery options are 600Wh or 800Wh, extendable to 1050Wh with the 250Wh PowerMore range extender for longer distances or touring. The integrated RX Chip is fitted as standard, bringing GPS tracking and a digital alarm with a year of ConnectRide included.

The Bosch variants use the proven Bosch Smart System — widely serviced, connected via the eBike Flow app, and available in CX (85Nm), PX (90Nm) and Speed configurations. The Pinion MGU combines motor and 12-speed gearbox in a single sealed unit at the crank — no derailleur, very low mechanical maintenance, smooth and exceptionally quiet. Both are serious systems. The right choice depends on how you ride and what you value — come in, and we will talk through both honestly.

Yes — identical motor, battery, specification and performance in a step-through frame. The lower top tube makes mounting and dismounting easier, which matters when you are doing it twice a day in all weathers. It suits shared use between two adults of different heights, or anyone who simply prefers that geometry. The performance is identical.

The Charger5 comes in four frame sizes — 45, 49, 53 and 58cm. As a guide: 45cm suits someone around 160–170cm, 49cm around 168–178cm, 53cm around 175–185cm, and 58cm around 182–195cm. These ranges overlap, so if you are between sizes, come in and we will fit you properly — it makes a real difference on a bike you ride every day.
