Muli Motor ST Family Bike Lifestyle26

Muli Motor ST

The Muli Motor ST is a compact electric cargo bike that carries children, shopping or a dog in a basket up front, yet rides and parks much like an ordinary bike. The folding front basket opens for around 100 litres of load and folds flat to about 28 cm wide, so it slips into tight hallways, bike racks and onto trains. A Shimano mid-motor takes the effort out of London’s hills and headwinds. Made in Germany by Muli and sold at Flying Dutchman in London.

A cargo bike that folds away

The Muli’s front basket is the heart of the bike. Pull the blue handle and it opens to carry around 100 litres or up to 70 kg — children, the weekly shop, camping kit or the dog; fold it back up and the bike narrows to about 28 cm, so it fits through doorways, into a hallway and onto bike racks and trains like a normal bike. The load sits low and central, which keeps the handling stable and surprisingly ordinary for a cargo bike. A Shimano EP5 mid-motor adds smooth assistance up to 25 km/h with 60 Nm of torque, enough for London’s hills with a full load, drawing on a 504 Wh battery.

Who it’s for

The Motor ST suits people who want to carry children, shopping or a dog around the city but don’t have room for a big cargo bike, and who’d rather not give up the feel of a normal bike. It’s at home on the school run, the supermarket trip and everyday errands, and because it folds narrow and stores small, it works for people in flats, terraced houses and tight hallways where a longer cargo bike simply wouldn’t fit.

Build and technology

A Shimano EP5 mid-motor gives smooth assistance up to 25 km/h with 60 Nm of torque, enough for London’s hills with a full load, drawing on a 504 Wh battery. Gears change themselves: the Di2 system shifts automatically as you ride, or at the touch of a button, with a heavy-duty KMC chain for direct power. A parallelogram suspension seatpost smooths broken tarmac and dropped kerbs, hydraulic disc brakes give confident stopping fully loaded, and the chromoly steel frame is handmade in Germany. The Muli Motor took a Best Cargo Bike award at Cyclingworld Europe 2025.

Not sure the Motor ST is right for you?

If you’re choosing between the electric Motor ST and the pedal-power Muskel, or weighing the Muli against a longer cargo bike, tell us how far you ride, how hilly your routes are and what you carry, and we’ll talk it through. The Muli’s strength is fitting a real cargo bike into a normal bike’s footprint; if you need to carry more than two children or much heavier loads, we can point you to other options. You’re welcome to compare them in person at our London shops.

Come and ride one in London

A compact cargo bike is worth trying before you buy, ideally with a load in the basket. We’ll set the Motor ST up and fit it to you before you collect it, and you can book a test ride at one of our London shops. Every electric bike we sell includes a free first service at 500 km, and the Muli is eligible for Cycle to Work, which can spread the cost. If you’d like to insure it, we can recommend Laka. FAQs

How much can the Muli Motor ST carry?

The folding front basket holds around 100 litres or up to 70 kg, with room for a rack on the back as well, for a total load of roughly 195 kg including the rider. That’s enough for two children, or a child and the weekly shop, or a dog and your gear.

How many children can you carry?

Up to two, in the front basket, which can be set up with a bench and accessories. We’ll help you configure the basket and choose the right seats and inserts for your family. Child inserts are sold separately.

Is it hard to ride or store compared with a normal bike?

Not really. The load sits low and central, so it handles much like an ordinary bike, and with the basket folded the Muli is only about 28 cm wide and barely longer than a normal bike, so it fits in hallways, on bike racks and on trains.

Is the Muli available on Cycle to Work?

Yes, depending on your employer and scheme provider. Contact us before ordering and we’ll confirm the best way to arrange it.
