Built for the job, not the school run

The Ox is Black Iron Horse's cargo workhorse, aimed at trades and businesses. Two configurations cover most work: the Lock Box, a strong aluminium case with a lockable lid for tools and stock left unattended on site; and the Multi, with a detachable ramp for loading mowers, bins, sack trucks and awkward weights, plus a lockable compartment for smaller valuables. The box runs 95cm long by 70cm wide and 54cm deep — a genuine day's load — and because it locks, it suits last-mile delivery and tradespeople who cannot leave kit on show.

Steady under a working load

Like the Polly, the Ox steers from the rear wheel, which matters more with cargo than with children: the two front wheels stay fixed, so the steering stays light and predictable however you have packed the box, and it comes about tightly enough to work yards, service roads and pedestrianised streets a van cannot. The load sits low over 20-inch wheels for stability, and hydraulic disc brakes with a parking brake bring the whole loaded weight to a controlled, repeatable stop — the kind of thing that counts on the fortieth drop of the day. For fleets, it can be finished in any RAL colour or wrapped, so it works as livery as well as transport.

Danish-built, made to last

Black Iron Horse have built cargo trikes from precision steel in Denmark for 25 years, with steel sourced and welded in Europe and every bike checked through the workshop before it ships. The Ox runs Shimano's EP6 motor at 85Nm with a 418Wh battery and a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub you can shift even at a standstill — handy when every junction is a loaded standing start. Lights and electronics are fitted from the factory, Schwalbe Marathon-family tyres reduce downtime, and the whole thing is designed to be serviced and kept earning rather than replaced.
