More motor, more carry — the Quick Haul built for hills and heavier loads

The Quick Haul P9 is the stronger model in the Quick Haul range. It keeps the same compact format, 50 kg rear rack and accessory ecosystem as the D8, but upgrades to a Bosch Performance Line motor with 65 Nm of torque and Shimano Alivio 9-speed gearing.

That upgrade matters most when you are carrying a child, riding hilly routes or loading the bike heavily for a shopping run. The Performance Line motor is the same motor used in the Tern HSD, and the extra torque makes a real difference on loaded starts and London’s less forgiving inclines.

Who is the Tern Quick Haul P9 best for?

The P9 is the right choice if you plan to carry one child regularly, live on or near a hilly route, or want the Quick Haul to handle heavier loads without working too hard.

It suits riders who want the Quick Haul’s compact city format with a motor that genuinely copes with real-world loads — a child on the back, a full week of shopping, a front rack with a dog carrier, or all of the above on different days.

If your route is mostly flat and your loads are light, the D8 will serve you well. If you want the motor to feel effortless rather than adequate, the P9 is worth the step up.

Motor and riding feel

The P9 uses a Bosch Performance Line motor with 65 Nm of torque and 300% pedal support. It delivers a more confident, responsive assist than the Active Line Plus in the D8 — particularly noticeable on hills, in headwinds and when pulling away from stops with a load.

The 9-speed Shimano Alivio gearing also gives a wider range than the D8’s 8-speed Altus, which helps on steeper climbs and makes the bike more versatile across different terrain and load combinations.

Tern Quick Haul P9 FAQs

Can the Tern Quick Haul P9 carry a child?

Yes. With the Clubhouse Mini and the correct passenger accessories, the Quick Haul P9 can carry one child within the bike’s load limits.

What is the difference between the Quick Haul P9 and D8?

The P9 uses a Bosch Performance Line motor with 65 Nm of torque and Shimano Alivio 9-speed gearing. The D8 uses a Bosch Active Line Plus motor with 50 Nm and Shimano Altus 8-speed gearing. The P9 is noticeably stronger on hills and under heavier loads.

Is the Quick Haul P9 worth the extra cost over the D8?

For mostly flat routes with light loads, the D8 is perfectly capable. If you are regularly carrying a child, riding hilly routes or loading the bike heavily, the P9’s extra torque earns its cost quickly. A test ride of both is the best way to judge.

Can I buy the Tern Quick Haul P9 through Cycle to Work?
