The Achielle Oscar is the classic diamond-frame city bike in Achielle's Urban line: a handmade Belgian steel frame with a Gates carbon belt, a Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub and hydraulic disc brakes. Low-maintenance, weatherproof and made to order in around thirty colours — a bike built to be ridden every day for years.

A modern city bike on a classic frame

The Oscar takes Achielle's handmade steel roadster frame and equips it for daily, all-weather city riding. The position is upright and comfortable, but a choice of handlebars and stems lets you set it anywhere from relaxed to sporty. Wider tyres take the sting out of cobbles and broken tarmac, and the steel frame flexes just enough to stay comfortable over a long ride — the quality you notice most after an hour in the saddle. It is a diamond frame you step over; the step-through version is the Olivia.

Built to be left alone between services

Everything on the Oscar is chosen to keep maintenance low and reliability high. The Gates carbon belt replaces the chain — no oil, no rust, no marked trouser leg — and lasts far longer than a chain before it needs replacing. The Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub seals the gears away inside the rear wheel, so you can change gear at a standstill and leave the bike outside through winter without a second thought. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes stop the same wet or dry, and Busch & Müller dynamo lighting — 70 lux at the front, with a daytime running light — means there is never a battery to charge.

Handmade in Belgium, made to order

Achielle cut, braze and paint the Oscar's frame by hand in their own workshop in Belgium, then finish it with European parts: a Brooks Cambium saddle and grips, Curana mudguards with an integrated rear light, and a Shimano XT hub dynamo. Because it is built to order, the Oscar is yours to configure — around thirty frame colours, a choice of rim colour, handlebars and finishing kit. Very little. The belt needs no oil, the hub gear and hydraulic brakes are sealed against the weather, and the dynamo lights never need charging. It is happy locked up outside through winter. Like any bike it benefits from a periodic service, which our workshop can take care of.
