Achielle Olivia

The Achielle Olivia is the step-through city bike in Achielle's Urban line: the same handmade Belgian steel, Gates carbon belt, Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub and hydraulic disc brakes as the Oscar, on a straight-top-tube frame you step through rather than over. Elegant, low-maintenance and made to order in around thirty colours.

Achielle Olivia Detail3 in Blue

A step-through you don't swing a leg over

The Olivia is built for easy on, easy off. Its straight-top-tube step-through frame lets you mount and dismount without lifting a leg over the back — the detail that matters most in daily use, in work clothes, or when you are stopping and starting across town. The position is upright and easy, the handmade steel frame stays comfortable over cobbles, and a choice of handlebars lets you fine-tune the reach. It is the step-through counterpart to the diamond-framed Oscar; the specification is identical.

A bike you can lock up and forget

The Olivia asks almost nothing of you between rides. A Gates carbon belt does the job of the chain without the oil, the rust or the mess, and lasts far longer before it needs replacing. The Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub keeps the gears sealed inside the rear wheel — shift at a standstill, leave it out through winter, forget about it. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes hold firm in the wet, and Busch & Müller dynamo lighting runs off the wheel, so there is never a battery to charge. It is a bike made to be locked up outside every day and simply kept rolling.

Handmade in Belgium, made to order

Like every Achielle, the Olivia's steel frame is cut, brazed and painted by hand in Belgium, then finished with European parts — a Brooks Cambium saddle and grips, Curana mudguards with an integrated rear light, and a Shimano XT hub dynamo. Built to order, it is yours to configure: around thirty frame colours, a choice of rim colour, handlebars and finishing kit. Our workshop builds and services Achielle in London, and the Olivia is eligible for the Cycle to Work scheme. If a straight top tube still sits a little high, Achielle also make a lower, curved-tube step-through — ask us about the options.

FAQs

What is the Achielle Olivia?

A step-through, handmade Belgian city bike from Achielle's Urban line — the same Gates carbon belt, Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub and hydraulic disc brakes as the Oscar, on a frame you step through rather than over. Built to order.

What is the difference between the Olivia and the Oscar?

The frame, and nothing else. The Olivia has a straight-top-tube step-through frame you step through; the Oscar has a diamond frame you step over. Drivetrain, brakes, lighting and components are identical. Choose by how you prefer to get on and off.

Is a step-through frame less sturdy?

No. The Olivia uses the same handmade steel and is built to the same standard as the diamond-framed Oscar. A step-through is about easy access, not reduced strength — it is a bike for daily, lifelong city use.

How much maintenance does the Olivia need?

Minimal. The belt needs no oil, the hub gear and hydraulic brakes are sealed, and the dynamo lights need no charging. It is content locked up outside through winter, and benefits from a periodic service, which our workshop can handle.
