Moustache Lundi 27.6

The Lundi is the bike Moustache built its name on — the upright, swept-handlebar city bike that has been a fixture of French streets since the brand began. The 27.6 sits at the top of the current Lundi 27 line: the same low step-through frame and heads-up riding position as the rest, but with the smoothest, lowest-maintenance drivetrain of the three — an Enviolo stepless hub paired with a Gates carbon belt, driven by Bosch’s 75 Nm Performance Line motor.

There are no gears to count and no chain to oil. You turn the grip, and you ride.

A calm way through the city

The 27.6 suits riders who want the commute to be the easy part of the day. The signature Moustache bars put you upright and high in traffic, with a clear view over the roofs of the cars around you; the low, open frame means you step through rather than swing a leg over — in work clothes as readily as in cycling kit.

Wide Schwalbe Super Moto-X tyres take the sting out of cobbles and sit across tram tracks without catching, and the suspension seatpost smooths whatever the tyres miss. It is a bike for the daily rhythm — the school run, the station, the shops — ridden in ordinary clothes without a second thought.

Built for everyday London

The frame is Moustache’s own hydroformed 6061 alloy, with the Bosch PowerTube battery set low in the down tube for a planted, stable feel and clean lines. Power comes from the Bosch Performance Line motor — 75 Nm, quiet and progressive — running the Bosch Smart System, so you have the eBike Flow app, on-screen navigation, adjustable assistance and the option to unlock the bike from the Kiox 300 display.

Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes do the stopping. Integrated Spanninga lights run off the main battery, front and rear. Moustache’s exclusive tubular mudguards keep the weather off, a MIK HD / QL3 rear rack takes a child seat, basket or panniers with a single click, and an AXA Block XXL frame lock is built in for quick stops.

Stepless gears, and nothing to oil

What sets the 27.6 apart from the rest of the Lundi range is the drivetrain. The Enviolo hub is stepless — no gears to click through, just a smooth twist of the grip that moves seamlessly from one ratio to the next, even while you are stopped at the lights.

Pair that with a Gates carbon belt in place of a chain and the maintenance list all but disappears: no oiling, no rust, no marked trouser hems, and far longer between workshop visits. On a bike ridden every day through London winters, it is the setup that asks the least of you over the years.

Which Lundi 27 is right for you?

The Lundi comes as three trims on one frame, and the choice really comes down to the drivetrain. The Lundi 27 ES is the gentle way in, with an Active Line Plus motor and a derailleur. The 27.4 swaps to a Shimano hub gear you can shift at a standstill. The 27.6 here goes furthest of all — the stepless Enviolo hub and belt drive, for the quietest and least demanding ride of the range. If you would rather forget the mechanical side of owning a bike, this is the one; if you are not sure, come and ride two back to back.

At Flying Dutchman

We ride these bikes ourselves, year-round, so the advice comes from the saddle rather than a spec sheet. We will set the 27.6 up for your height, talk you through the Enviolo hub and the Smart System, and let you take it out on real roads before you decide — ideally next to another trim, so you can feel the difference for yourself. Come and see us at one of our London shops, and have a look at the full Moustache range while you are here.

FAQs

Can you change gear on the Lundi 27.6 while stopped?

Yes — it is one of the main reasons to choose it. The Enviolo hub is stepless and shifts under load or at a standstill, so if you reach a junction in the wrong gear you simply twist the grip to where you want it and pull away smoothly. There is no clicking through gears and no wrong gear at the lights.

Does the belt drive really need less maintenance than a chain?

It does. A Gates carbon belt needs no oiling, will not rust and will not mark your clothes, and it runs far longer than a chain between replacements. Combined with the sealed Enviolo hub, the 27.6 is about as low-maintenance as a city bike gets — which is what you want on something you ride every day.

Is the Lundi 27.6 heavy to live with?

At around 27.6 kg it is a substantial bike, as most fully-equipped city e-bikes are. You will not notice the weight on the road — the motor and the low-set battery see to that — but it is worth thinking about where it will live. If you have stairs or a narrow hallway, talk to us about storage first; with ground-floor or shed access, it will not trouble you.

What is the difference between the Lundi and the Mardi?

Both are upright, step-through Moustache city bikes. The Lundi is rigid at the front and takes its comfort from the riding position, the wide tyres and the suspension seatpost — lovely on reasonable roads. The Mardi adds a suspension fork and an adjustable stem for rougher going. If your routes are broken and bumpy, look at the Mardi; if they are mostly smooth, the Lundi is the more elegant choice.
