The Automatic variant, with Enviolo AUTOMATiQ self-shifting gears, is the natural choice if you want to focus entirely on the ride. If you love the upright Dutch character but want something with more retro detailing, the Cruiser2 Mixte is worth a look too.

Build & technology

The Swing5 uses the Bosch Performance Line motor — the right choice for a bike built around comfort and ease rather than maximum torque. The battery sits on the luggage rack rather than in the frame, preserving the traditional Dutch proportions and allowing removal for charging away from the bike. Available in Silent, Rucktritt, Vario and Automatic variants — all with belt drive. The Automatic shifts continuously based on your speed and effort, which suits the Swing5’s character and the rhythm of city riding particularly well. A brake light is fitted across all variants.

FAQs

Both have a fixed-ratio hub and belt drive — one gear, zero maintenance. The only difference is the braking: the Silent uses conventional hand brakes, while the Rucktritt has a coaster brake, which you operate by pushing back on the pedals. It is a traditional feature on Dutch and German city bikes, and some people simply prefer it. If you are not sure, conventional hand brakes are the most familiar choice for most people in the UK.

Yes — there is a charging port on the battery, so you can charge it in place. It is also removable if you prefer to charge it away from the bike, which is useful if your storage space does not have a power socket nearby.

The Swing5 is at its best on everyday city journeys — and it makes those genuinely enjoyable. For longer daily commutes with more varied terrain, the Nevo5 is worth a look: more battery options, more motor choice, same R&M quality.
