Gazelle Tour Populair USA
Gazelle only really make one type of omafiets, and this is it.
You might wonder why the largest bicycle manufacturer in the Netherlands only makes one traditionally styled bike, and the answer is a simple one: the Tour Populair gets the formula right, so why expend energy on anything else?
Gazelle have been in the bike trade since 1892, and they received their Royal Warrant of Appointment on their centenary (which coincided with the production of their eighth millionth bicycle). With this in mind, it is safe to say that they know a thing or two about building decent bikes!
As it states on their website, the Tour Populair is Gazelle’s heritage; the frame was inspired by the English bicycles that they initially imported, and the rest of the styling and geometry were carefully refined over decades of development.
Utility cycling began with bikes like this, and it is a credit to their design that they are still just as practical today as they were a hundred years ago. Of course, features like dynamo lighting, hub gears, stainless steel hardware, and reliable weather-proof rollerbrakes all add up to bring this bike well and truly into the 21st century, but there is undoubtedly a timeless quality to the Tour Populair that is rarely found on modern city bikes.
